How to legally start a freelance business

Today I have an exclusive interview with Micala Quinn, a former high school teacher, turned freelancer turned online business owner – now helping thousands of stay-at-home moms work from home.

My name is Micala, a mom to three beautiful children, two of which I am very grateful to have in my arms and one who is watching over our family from Heaven.

I was previously a teacher working 50-60 hours a week & making pennies. Oh, yea & I was absolutely miserable dropping my baby off at daycare every day. ⁣⁣

The incessant rushing caused me a lot of stress, anxiousness, and anger…which quickly turned into resentment.

I resented my job, myself, and my husband. I felt stuck. I felt trapped and like there were NO options for me to find a stable, reliable way to make income from home.

I needed to work. I needed an income.

And that’s how I found freelancing.  ⁣⁣

In 2017, I walked out of the classroom for good to become a work-at-home mom. Shortly after I left, I realized that I was not alone. That there are moms everywhere who are struggling with some of the very same things I was. They were looking for solutions. They were looking for answers.⁣⁣

And since 2017, I have helped tens of thousands of women through my free resources and helped over 1000 through my paid programs actually build their dream work-life balanced career.

What is Freelance work?

A freelancer is someone who works as an independent contractor to help online businesses.

As a freelancer, YOU will have control over when you work, how much you work, where you work, and how much you charge… lots of moms and millennials are choosing to freelance because they are sick of the lack of flexibility that traditional jobs require.

For example, a Virtual Assistant (VA for short) is a service provider that takes over the administrative tasks for a business.

Virtual assistants typically charge hourly packages and do a variety of tasks depending on the client’s needs. VA’s do not need to have any specific experience but MUST be able to self-teach (aka use youtube or google) and be a quick learner.

Some daily tasks include:

  • Email inbox management

  • Customer service

  • Research

  • Data entry

  • Create graphics

  • Schedule social media posts

  • Content repurposing

Virtual assistants are a jack of all trades people and essential to all online businesses, but even can help local and small brick and mortar businesses.

Skills are not as important as personality type. Go-getters, problem solvers, figure-it-out types make awesome virtual assistants. Plus – those hiring VAs typically are looking to hire beginners and are willing to help train on the specific tasks the client needs.

How much do freelancers earn?

This really depends on how much you charge per hour and if you want to do this full-time or part-time.
